SYNOPSIS
Provides that certain special education treatment options or teaching methods shall be discontinued.

An Act concerning special education services and supplementing chapter 46 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. Any treatment option or teaching method that exhibits some or all of the following shall be discontinued: obvious signs of physical or emotional pain experienced by the pupil; potential or actual side effects, such as tissue damage, physical illness, severe physical or emotional stress-effects which would properly require the involvement of medical personnel; ambivalence and discomfort by the pupil, family, staff, or care givers regarding the necessity of extreme strategies; and obvious stress felt by the peers of the pupil exhibiting the behavior.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill provides that any special education treatment option or teaching method which exhibits some or all of certain factors shall be discontinued. Those factors include obvious signs of physical or emotional pain; potential or actual side effects which would properly require the involvement of medical personnel; ambivalence and discomfort by the pupil, family, staff, or care givers regarding the necessity of extreme strategies; and obvious stress felt by the peers of the pupil exhibiting the behavior.
