SYNOPSIS

    Provides that separate contract must be awarded for pharmacy benefit management services in connection with SHBP drug prescription benefits.

An Act concerning drug prescription benefits under the New Jersey State Health Benefits Program and supplementing P.L.1961, c.49 (C.52:14-17.25).

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. The State Health Benefits Commission shall award a separate contract for the provision of pharmacy benefit management services in connection with drug prescription benefits under the State Health Benefits Program, which is independent of any contract for the provision or management of health care benefits.

    The first contract awarded pursuant to this section shall be for a period that begins upon the expiration of any contract under which these services are provided that is in effect on the effective date of this act.

 

    2. This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    This bill provides that the State Health Benefits Commission must award a separate contract for the provision of pharmacy benefit management services in connection with drug prescription benefits under the State Health Benefits Program. At present, these services are provided as part of a broader health benefits contract. The first contract awarded under the bill would begin upon the expiration of the current contract.
