SYNOPSIS
Requires school buses to display owner's business telephone number for reporting of violations, problems, or unusual circumstances.

An Act concerning school buses and supplementing Title 39 of the Revised Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. Every school bus registered in this State shall have conspicuously displayed, and easily readable, on the rear of the vehicle, or on a decal or plate affixed to the rear of the vehicle, the following statement: "If this bus has committed a violation of the motor vehicle laws, created any traffic problems, or been involved in any unusual circumstances, please call ____________." The telephone number of the registered owner's place of business shall be inserted in the blank space at the end of the sentence. The notice shall also contain a motor vehicle number assigned by the registered owner which may be used to readily identify the bus, its operator, and its location at the time of a reported violation or incident.
A school bus registered in this State which is not in compliance with this section shall not be operated on a road or highway in this State.
1The owner of a school bus in violation of this section shall, for a first offense, be issued a warning. For each subsequent offense, the owner shall be subject to a fine of $100.1
2. This act shall take effect immediately, however the provisions of this act shall not be enforceable until the first day of the fourth month after the Commissioner of Transportation has caused notice of the display requirement, along with any guidelines necessary to effectuate the purposes of this act, to be sent to all registered owners of school buses, which shall be done no later than 90 days after the enactment of this act.
