STATEMENT
This bill raises the age requirement for compulsory school attendance from 16 to 17 years of age, except for students who graduate from high school prior to their seventeenth birthday.
Changes in society and the increasing demands of the modern job market require that all children receive an adequate education. A child who stops attending school at age 16 is not prepared to function in our society or compete in the workforce. Requiring students to attend school until the age of 17 will help ensure that students receive an adequate education and are sufficiently prepared to compete in the labor market and function in society.
