ASSEMBLY TRANSPORTATION, PUBLIC WORKS AND INDEPENDENT AUTHORITIES COMMITTEE
STATEMENT TO
ASSEMBLY, No. 3067
with committee amendments
STATE OF NEW JERSEY
DATED: NOVEMBER 13, 2008
The Assembly Transportation, Public Works and Independent Authorities Committee reports favorably and with committee amendments Assembly Bill No. 3067.
As reported, this amended bill prohibits the holder of a special learner’s permit, an examination permit, or a provisional driver’s license who is charged with a motor vehicle offense for which motor vehicle penalty points are assessed from entering into a plea agreement to avoid those points.
The provisions of this bill are based upon recommendations proposed by the New Jersey Teen Driver Study Commission in its March 2008 report.
COMMITTEE AMENDMENTS
The committee amendments remove the provisions providing for: 1) enhanced penalties for the holders of a special learner’s permit, examination permits, and provisional driver’s licenses who are convicted of motor vehicle violations; and 2) the establishment of two classes of motor vehicle violations.
