SYNOPSIS
Condemns Lowe’s decision to withdraw advertising from television show featuring Muslim-Americans.
CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT
As introduced.
A Senate Resolution condemning Lowe’s decision to withdraw its advertising from a television show featuring Muslim-Americans.
Whereas, The people of the State of New Jersey take great pride in the diversity of our State and our Nation; and
Whereas, Tens of thousands of Muslim-Americans live in the State of New Jersey, where, like everyone else, they work hard to raise their children, earn a living, and serve their communities; and
Whereas, Lowe’s Companies, Inc., the retail home improvement chain, recently terminated its advertising during TLC’s television program “All-American Muslim” because the subjects of the show are Muslims; and
Whereas, The corporate management at Lowe’s Companies, Inc., apparently bowed to pressure from the Florida Family Association, a group that has previously targeted minority groups; and
Whereas, The corporate management of Lowe’s Companies, Inc., should be condemned for its shocking and insensitive insult of Muslim-Americans; and
Whereas, It is fitting and proper for this House to condemn Lowe’s Companies, Inc., for its decision to withdraw its advertising from the TLC series “All-American Muslim” and to call on the corporation’s management to reconsider its decision and reinstate the advertisements; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey:
1. This House condemns the decision of Lowe’s Companies, Inc., to withdraw its advertisements from TLC’s television series “All-American Muslim” and urges the corporate managers of Lowe’s to reinstate the advertisements.
2. Duly authenticated copies of this resolution, signed by the President of the Senate and attested by the Secretary thereof, shall be transmitted to the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Lowe’s Companies, Inc.
