SYNOPSIS

†††† Requires school districts provide pupil directory information to county vocational schools upon request.

An Act concerning access to certain pupil information and supplementing chapter 54 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

†††† Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

†††† 1.††† a. As used in this section, ďpupil directory informationĒ means a pupilís name and† address.

†††† b.††† The board of education of a school district or regional school district located in a county in which there is a county vocational school district shall provide, upon the request of that county vocational school district, pupil directory information for each pupil enrolled in grades six through 12, or any subset of these grades, as requested by that county vocational school district.† The board of education of a school district or regional school district shall not provide the pupil directory information for a pupil if the parent previously submitted a request that the pupilís information not be released for the purposes of this subsection.† The board of education of a school district or regional school district shall notify parents of the opportunity to prohibit the release of pupil directory information.

†††† c.†††† The Commissioner of Education shall establish the timelines during which a county vocational school district may request pupil directory information and when the school district or regional school district shall provide the information.

†††† 2.††† This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

†††† This bill requires that a school district provide the county vocational school district in that county with the pupil directory information for all students in the district enrolled in grades six through 12 upon receiving such a request from the county vocational school district.† The information to be provided would include the pupilís name and address.† The pupilís parent would have the option of not having the pupilís information released for this purpose, and the school district would be responsible for notifying parents of that option.
