Architects
used a barrel-vaulted skylight to visually link the
new south addition (1991), to the historic State House
structure. Over the main entrance, five marble tablets
designed by New Jersey artist John Goodyear feature
both images of ancient lawgivers and letters spelling
out the words "Order" and "Chaos."
Called The Dawn of Law, the work honors the essence
of lawmaking. This modern wing includes offices for
partisan staff for the Senate and Assembly. Legislators
do not maintain offices in the capitol building, except
for those in leadership positions. Instead, they work
out of district offices based in the communities they
represent.
