In
response to the Americans with Disabilities Act, every effort
has been made to accommodate legislators, legislative staff and
visiting constituents with special needs. These efforts include
wheelchair-accessible elevators, rest rooms and pay phones in
both the State House and State House Annex. Because the Senate
and Assembly chamber public galleries are not wheelchair accessible,
visitors using wheelchairs are granted access to the chamber floors
through the main entrances on the first floor.
Handicapped
parking spaces are located on West State Street near the State
House. The West State Street entrances for the State House and
State House Annex have exterior wheelchair accessible ramps and
automatic doors. The State House east side entrance is at grade
level.
Considerations
for persons with hearing loss include the availability of assistive
listening devices for legislative sessions and committee meetings,
when requested 24-hours in advance. Real time reporters and sign
language interpreters are available with a minimum of five working-days
notice. To arrange for these services, please call 609-847-3353.
For
general information and assistance, you may contact the Office
of Public Information at 609-847-3905, toll free (in-state only)
800-792-8630, and for Hearing Impaired users, dial 711 for NJ
Relay.
A
publication with detailed information on accommodations for persons
with disabilities is available from the Office of Legislative
Services’ Legislative Information and Bill Room.
