SYNOPSIS

     Prohibits MVC from imposing duplicate license or identification card fee and digitized picture fee if duplicate is requested to reflect change in organ donor status.

An Act concerning duplicate driver’s licenses and identification cards and supplementing P.L.1979, c.261 (C.39:3-10f et seq.) and P.L.1980, c.47 (C.39:3-29.2 et seq.).

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    Notwithstanding any law, rule, or regulation to the contrary, the commission shall not impose a fee for a replacement driver’s license or the digitized picture fee if the replacement driver’s license is requested solely for the purpose of designating that the person shall donate all or any organs or tissues for the purposes of transplantation or therapy pursuant to section 1 of P.L.1978, c.181 (C.39:3-12.2).

 

     2.    Notwithstanding any law, rule, or regulation to the contrary, the commission shall not impose a fee for a duplicate identification card or the digitized picture fee if the duplicate identification card is requested solely for the purpose of designating that the person shall donate all or any organs or tissues for the purposes of transplantation or therapy pursuant to section 1 of P.L.1978, c.181 (C.39:3-12.2).

 

     3.    This act shall take effect on the first day of the third month following enactment.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill prohibits the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission from imposing duplicate identification card fees and replacement driver’s license fees, including the digitized picture fee, if a person requests the duplicate identification card or replacement license solely for the purpose of reflecting that the person has become an organ donor.  Currently, the cost of having a duplicate identification card or replacement license issued is $11, including the digitized picture fee.
