SYNOPSIS

     Prohibits MVC from imposing duplicate license or identification card fee and digitized picture fee if duplicate is requested to reflect change in organ donor status.

An Act concerning duplicate driver’s licenses and identification cards and supplementing P.L.1979, c.261 (C.39:3-10f et seq.) and P.L.1980, c.47 (C.39:3-29.2 et seq.).

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

      1.   1a.1 Notwithstanding any law, rule, or regulation to the contrary, the 1[commission] New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission1 shall not impose a fee for a replacement driver’s license or the digitized picture fee if the replacement driver’s license is requested solely for the purpose of designating that the person shall donate all or any organs or tissues for the purposes of transplantation or therapy pursuant to section 1 of P.L.1978, c.181 (C.39:3-12.2).

      1b. In order to receive a replacement driver’s license, pursuant to subsection a. of this section, a person shall first surrender the person’s current driver’s license to the commission.1

 

      2.   1a.1 Notwithstanding any law, rule, or regulation to the contrary, the 1[commission] New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission1 shall not impose a fee for a duplicate identification card or the digitized picture fee if the duplicate identification card is requested solely for the purpose of designating that the person shall donate all or any organs or tissues for the purposes of transplantation or therapy pursuant to section 1 of P.L.1978, c.181 (C.39:3-12.2).

      1b. In order to receive a replacement identification card, pursuant to subsection a. of this section, a person shall first surrender the person’s current identification card to the commission.1

 

     3.    This act shall take effect on the first day of the third month following enactment.
