SENATE LAW AND PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

ASSEMBLY, No. 3105

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED:  NOVEMBER 30, 2017

The Senate Law and Public Safety Committee reports favorably Assembly Bill No. 3105.

As reported by the committee, this bill provides that the limitation on the hours of the retail sale of alcohol be consistent throughout the licensed premises.

Under current law, a municipality may impose limitations on the hours that alcoholic beverages are sold at retail.  Under the provisions of this bill, municipalities may impose these limitations, but the hours are required to be the same throughout the licensed premises.  For example, under the bill, a municipality would not be authorized to require a bar on the same premises as a restaurant to close earlier than the restaurant.

As reported by the committee, Assembly Bill No. 3105 is identical to Senate Bill No. 3004, which also was reported by the committee on this same date.
