SYNOPSIS

     Requires NJT to provide free rail tickets to rail passengers delayed more than one hour due to rail car or light rail vehicle mechanical failure.

An Act concerning New Jersey Transit Corporation rail passenger fares and supplementing P.L.1979, c.150 (C.27:25-1 et seq.).

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    The New Jersey Transit Corporation shall provide a rail ticket at no cost to a rail passenger for rail passenger service operated by the corporation that was delayed more than one hour past its scheduled arrival time due to rail car or light rail vehicle mechanical failure.  The provision of the rail ticket at no cost to that rail passenger shall be made upon request of the rail passenger and be of an amount equal to the cost of the ticket paid for the rail passenger service that was delayed more than one hour due to rail car or light rail vehicle mechanical failure.  The rail passenger shall provide to the corporation proof of purchase of a rail ticket for the delayed rail passenger service in a manner determined by the corporation.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately, but shall remain inoperative for 90 days following the date of enactment.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires the New Jersey Transit Corporation (NJ Transit) to provide a rail ticket at no cost to a rail passenger for rail passenger service operated by NJ Transit that was delayed more than one hour past its scheduled arrival time due to rail car or light rail vehicle mechanical failure.  The provision of the rail ticket at no cost to that rail passenger is to be made upon request of the rail passenger and be of an amount equal to the cost of the ticket paid for the rail passenger service that was delayed more than one hour due to rail car or light rail vehicle mechanical failure.  The rail passenger is to provide to NJ Transit proof of purchase of a rail ticket for the delayed rail passenger service in a manner determined by NJ Transit.
