      The Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee reports favorably Assembly Bill No. 2067.

      As reported, this bill allows family members of deceased law enforcement officers and firefighters whose deaths resulted from their work or status as officers or firefighters to apply to the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission for a distinctive license plate.  These distinctive license plates would be issued at no additional cost to the applicant.  Under the bill, “family member” means a spouse, child, child’s spouse, parent, parent’s spouse, grandchild, grandchild’s spouse, whether the individual is related by blood, marriage or civil union, or adoption.

     The bill authorizes the creation of the “Family of Fallen Law Enforcement Officers and Firefighters License Plate Fund,” into which moneys may be donated or otherwise made available by persons, including non-governmental organizations, non-profit organizations, and corporations.

     This bill was pre-filed for introduction in the 2018-2019 session pending technical review.  As reported, the bill includes the changes required by technical review, which has been performed.
