SENATE COMMUNITY AND URBAN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
STATEMENT TO
SENATE, No. 206
STATE OF NEW JERSEY
DATED: DECEMBER 12, 2019
The Senate Community and Urban Affairs Committee reports favorably Senate Bill No. 206.
This bill prohibits certain local officials from using vehicles owned by the local government agency for unofficial purposes, including driving the vehicle to the official’s primary place of residence after the close of business. Specifically, the provisions of the bill would apply to any local official that serves on the governing body or board of a local government agency, as defined in the “Local Government Ethics Law,” P.L.1991, c.29 (C.40A:9-22.1 et seq.). Current law does not establish any restriction on the use of municipally owned vehicles.
This bill was pre-filed for introduction in the 2018-2019 session pending technical review. As reported, the bill includes the changes required by technical review, which has been performed.
