SYNOPSIS

     Requires business owners and rental unit owners to maintain certain liability insurance policies.

An Act requiring liability insurance for 1[employers] business owners1 and 2[multiple dwelling] rental2 unit owners and supplementing 1[chapter 15 of]1 Title 1[34] 171 of the Revised Statutes 1[and P.L.1967, c.76 (C.55:13A-1 et seq.)]1.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1[1.    Any employer subject to the “employers’ liability insurance law,” R.S.34:15-70 et seq., shall maintain a policy of general liability insurance for negligent acts in an amount of no less than $500,000 for combined property damage and bodily injury to or death of one or more persons in any one accident or occurrence.]1

 

     1[2.]     1.1    The owner of a 1business or1 3the owner of a3 2[multiple dwelling] rental2 unit 3or units3 shall maintain a 3liability insurance3 policy 3[of] , including, but not limited to,3 1commercial1 general liability insurance 3, personal liability, or an umbrella insurance policy3 for negligent acts in an amount of no less than $500,000 for combined property damage and bodily injury to or death of one or more persons in any one accident or occurrence.

 

     1[3.]     2.1    This act shall take effect on the 90th day next following enactment 3and shall apply to policies issued or renewed on or after the effective date of this act3.
