SENATE COMMERCE COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

SENATE, No. 822

with committee amendments

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED:  JUNE 11, 2018

The Senate Commerce Committee reports favorably and with committee amendments Senate Bill No. 822.

This bill, as amended, requires employers that are subject to the “employers’ liability insurance law” and owners of multiple dwelling units to maintain policies of general liability insurance for negligent acts in an amount of no less than $500,000 for combined property damage and bodily injury to or death of one or more persons in any one accident or occurrence.

This bill was pre-filed for introduction in the 2018-2019 session pending technical review.  As reported, the bill includes the changes required by technical review, which has been performed.

Committee Amendments:

The amendments require business owners and owners of multiple dwelling units to maintain policies of commercial general liability insurance for negligent acts in an amount of no less than $500,000 for combined property damage and bodily injury to or death of one or more persons in any one accident or occurrence.

The amendments remove the references to employers and the “employers’ liability insurance law.”  This clarifies that the bill does not affect the workers’ compensation requirements for employers.
