SENATE, No. 2579

with Senate Floor Amendments

(Proposed by Senator SWEENEY)

ADOPTED: JULY 1, 2018

Senate Bill No. 2579 (2R) authorizes a State or local government entity or parking authority to use a digital parking meter or other electronic parking compliance device to monitor parking compliance within its jurisdiction.

These Senate amendments increase from three to five minutes the minimum grace period after a motor vehicle enters a parking space during which an expired meter violation may not be imposed.  These Senate amendments also establish a minimum five-minute grace period after the time on the meter or device has expired during which a violation may not be imposed. The municipality has the discretion to require a grace period longer than five minutes under the amendments.
