SENATE TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

SENATE, No. 2755

with committee amendments

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED:  JULY 26, 2018

The Senate Transportation Committee reports favorably and with committee amendments Senate Bill No. 2755.

As amended and reported, this bill provides that, beginning in the 2021-2022 school year, a school district transportation supervisor who is newly hired or who has less than 11 years of experience will be required, as a condition of employment, to provide evidence to the board of education of satisfactory completion of the School Transportation Supervisors Certification Program offered by the Center for Government Services at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey or any other certification program designated by the Commissioner of Education.  Under the bill, the transportation supervisor will bear the full cost of the certification program.

The committee amended the bill to authorize the Commissioner of Education to designate an alternate certification program to be completed by school district transportation supervisors and to provide proper reference for the School Transportation Supervisors Certification Program offered by the Center for Government Services at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey.

As amended and reported, Senate Bill No. 2755 is identical to Assembly Bill No. 2436 (2R), which was reported by the committee on this date.
