SYNOPSIS

     Requires parents who intend to home-school their children to inform the school district of that decision; requires school district to maintain record of each home-schooled child in the district.

An Act concerning home-schooled children and supplementing chapter 38 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    A parent or guardian who intends to home-school his child shall submit to the superintendent of the resident school district no later than August 15 of each school year a letter informing the superintendent of the decision to home-school the child for that school year.  The resident district shall maintain a record of the name, age, and place of residence of each home-schooled child in the district.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires parents who intend to home-school their children to submit to the superintendent of the resident school district by August 15 of each school year a letter informing the superintendent of the decision to home-school the child for that school year. Under the bill, the resident district is required to maintain a record of the name, age, and place of residence of each home-schooled child in the district.
