STATEMENT TO

 

ASSEMBLY, No. 1632

 

with Assembly Floor Amendments

      This floor amendment:

·         modifies language in the bill to require a board of education to accept monetary donations, for deposit into the board’s “School Meal Fund” as established under the bill, from any person or entity for the purposes of assisting students with the purchase of school breakfast or school lunch and satisfying any arrears of school meal bills of students; 

·         requires School Meal Fund moneys to be deposited in a separate bank account;

·         requires the School Meal Fund to be reduced by all costs related to the operation of the fund and stipulates that any funds remaining at the end of the fiscal year will be carried forward into subsequent fiscal years;

·         stipulates that the notification to be provided to parents and guardians of students and to other residents of the school district and community organizations under the bill will include information regarding the board’s obligation to accept funds to assist students with the purchase of school meals and satisfying arrears of school meal bills; and

·         provides that the notification requirements established under the bill will not apply to school districts in which all schools in the district have adopted the Community Eligibility Provision and provide free school meals to all students enrolled in the district.
