     Requires DOH to study racial aspects of ovarian cancer.

An Act concerning racial aspects of ovarian cancer.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.  a.    The Commissioner of Health shall conduct a study of the racial aspects of ovarian cancer.  The purpose of the study shall be to determine whether there are differences in ovarian cancer effects, rates, risk factors, symptoms, and outcomes among women who are members of racial and ethnic groups that shall include but shall not be limited to:  Asian, African-American, Caucasian, Hispanic, Native American, and Pacific Islander.

     b.    Within one year after the date of enactment of this act, the Commissioner of Health shall prepare and submit to the Governor and, pursuant to section 2 of P.L.1991, c.164 (C.52:14-19.1), to the Legislature, a report containing the study's findings.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately and shall expire upon the submission of the report pursuant to subsection b. of section 1.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires the Department of Health (DOH) to study racial aspects of ovarian cancer.

     Under the bill, the DOH is to conduct a study of the racial aspects of ovarian cancer.  The purpose of the study is to determine whether there are differences in ovarian cancer effects, rates, risk factors, symptoms, and outcomes among women who are members of racial and ethnic groups that are to include but not be limited to:  Asian, African-American, Caucasian, Hispanic, Native American, and Pacific Islander.

     Within one year after the bill’s date of enactment, the DOH is to prepare and submit to the Governor and the Legislature a report containing the study's findings.  The bill is to take effect immediately and expire upon the submission of the report.
