STATEMENT TO

ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR

ASSEMBLY, No. 5075

with Assembly Floor Amendments

(Proposed by Assemblyman BURZICHELLI)

ADOPTED: MARCH 1, 2021

The Assembly Committee Substitute to Assembly Bill No. 5075 removes the Fire Museum and Fallen Firefighters Memorial from the auspices of the Department of Environmental Protection and requires it to be reorganized and established as an independent, non-profit organization.

These Assembly amendments clarify that the museum collection donated by Ernest Day is to be transferred from the Department of Environmental Protection and placed in the custody of the New Jersey Fire Museum and Fallen Firefighters Memorial.  The amendments also remove from the bill and repeal from current law references to the New Jersey Fire Engine and Equipment Museum.  In addition, the amendments clarify that the public members appointed to the board of the Fire Museum and Fallen Firefighters Memorial are to have knowledge and experience in fire service.  The amendments also clarify that the board’s executive director would be appointed within the limits of the funds made available by the board. Finally, the amendments make certain technical corrections to the bill.
