SYNOPSIS

     Designates Department of Health State office building in Trenton as “Judith M. Persichilli Building.”

An Act designating the Department of Health State office building in the City of Trenton as the "Judith M. Persichilli Building."

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    The Legislature finds and declares that:

     a.     New Jersey Department of Health Commissioner Judith M. Persichilli has served the State of New Jersey for decades in various healthcare positions.

     b.    Commissioner Persichilli began her career of service as an intensive care nurse, working with the most critical patients.

     c.     Prior to her appointment as the 22nd Commissioner of Health, Commissioner Persichilli was the Chief Executive Officer at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton, President Emerita of Catholic Health East Trinity Health, and the acting Chief Executive Officer of University Hospital in Newark.

     d.    Commissioner Persichilli is the recipient of several honors and awards, including induction into the New Jersey State Nurses Association Hall of Honor in 2006, the 2008 Richard J. Hughes Humanitarian Award, and the 2011 Edward J. Ill Excellence in Medicine Award for Outstanding Medical Executive.

     e.     Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Commissioner Persichilli has guided the State through the worst health crisis in 100 years with her strong leadership and unflappable demeanor.

     f.     Commissioner Persichilli’s communication, collaboration, and responsiveness during this time has been invaluable to the day-to-day management of the pandemic.

     g.    It is appropriate that the new Department of Health State building located at 55 North Willow Street in the City of Trenton should bear the name of a woman who, through her tireless public service and leadership in the face of a once in a century pandemic, continuously provides a model of excellence and commitment that will serve to inspire and encourage others.

 

     2.    The State Department of Health office building located at 55 North Willow Street in the City of Trenton is designated as the “Judith M. Persichilli Building.”

 

     3.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill designates the State Department of Health building at 55 North Willow Street in the City of Trenton as the “Judith M. Persichilli Building.”

     Prior to being appointed the 22nd Commissioner of Health, Commissioner Persichilli was an intensive care nurse and healthcare executive for decades at several well-regarded health institutions.  Commissioner Persichilli has received numerous awards and honors for her leadership and excellence in the healthcare field.

     Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Commissioner Persichilli has been at the forefront, providing daily reports on new positives, test results, and deaths in the State.  Her leadership, communication, collaboration, and responsiveness during this time has been invaluable to the day-to-day management of the pandemic.

     It is appropriate that the new Department of Health State building be named after Commissioner Persichilli for her tireless public service and leadership in the face of a once in a century pandemic.
