SYNOPSIS

     Requires certain student identification cards to contain telephone number for suicide prevention hotline.

An Act concerning student suicide prevention and supplementing chapter 6 and chapter 3B of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    A public school that includes any of the grades seven through 12 and that issues student identification cards shall have printed on the back of the student identification cards the telephone number for 1[a suicide prevention hotline] the New Jersey Suicide Prevention Hopeline (NJ Hopeline) and contact information for a crisis text line1.

 

     2.    An institution of higher education that issues student identification cards shall have printed on the back of the student identification cards the telephone number for 1[a suicide prevention hotline] the New Jersey Suicide Prevention Hopeline (NJ Hopeline) and contact information for a crisis text line1.

 

     13.   A public school that includes any of the grades seven through 12 and that issues student identification cards, and an institution of higher education that issues student identification cards, may, in addition to the telephone number for the NJ Hopeline and contact information for a crisis text line, provide contact information for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, an on-campus crisis center, or any other mental health support service.1

 

     1[3.Section 1 of this] 4.   This1 act shall take effect in the first full school year 1[following the date of enactment, and section 2 of this act shall take effect] or1 in the first full academic year 1, as applicable,1 following the date of enactment.
