SYNOPSIS
Delays mandatory retirement in SPRS when it would occur during period of state of emergency declared by the Governor.

An Act concerning mandatory retirement from the State Police Retirement System and supplementing P.L.1965, c.89 (C.53:5A-3 et seq.).
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. When a member of the State Police Retirement System is required to retire upon attaining the age of 55 years and the retirement date for that member will occur after the date of the declaration of a public health emergency or state of emergency, or both, by the Governor but before the end date of either emergency, the retirement date shall be extended, upon the request of the member, to the first day of the second calendar month that follows the calendar month in which the end date of the public health emergency or state of emergency, whichever is later, occurs.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill provides for the extension of the retirement date for a member of the State Police Retirement System who is required to retire upon attaining the age of 55 years. If the retirement date falls during a period of a public health emergency or state of emergency declared by the Governor, the bill requires the retirement date to be extended, if the member makes such a request, for a short period of time following the end of the emergency.
