STATEMENT TO

SENATE, No. 2793

with Assembly Floor Amendments

(Proposed by Assemblywoman QUIJANO)

ADOPTED: JUNE 24, 2021

      These Assembly amendments:

· provide that the diversity plan required by the bill will establish clear and specific goals for increasing the recruitment and retention of diverse staff in addition to diverse faculty and students;  

· require the diversity goals established in the diversity plan be, in the case of a county college, representative of the demographics of the county in which the college is located and, in the case of a four-year public institution of higher education, representative of the demographics of the State;

· delete reference to “faculty diversity ambassador” and insert reference to “staff diversity ambassador;” and

· require the Secretary of Higher Education, in collaboration with the Director of the Division on Civil Rights in the Department of Law and Public Safety, develop guidance regarding the faculty search and selection process at public institutions of higher education that is aligned with the recommendations put forth in the 2020 report of the New Jersey Interagency Task Force to Combat Youth Bias.
