SYNOPSIS
Allows student enrolled in institution of higher education who has completed 30 semester-hour credits to serve as substitute teacher.

An Act concerning substitute teachers and supplementing chapter 26 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. Notwithstanding any law, rule, or regulation to the contrary, a candidate for a substitute teacher credential who is enrolled in a regionally accredited institution of higher education shall present a minimum of 30 semester-hour credits completed at the institution at the time of applying for the substitute credential.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
State Board of Education regulations at N.J.A.C.6A:9B-7.3 require a candidate for a substitute teacher credential to have at least 60 semester-hour credits completed at a regionally accredited institution of higher education at the time of applying for the substitute credential. This bill allows a student enrolled in a regionally accredited institution of higher education to have a minimum of 30 semester-hour credits completed at the institution at the time of applying for the substitute credential.
