SENATE TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE
STATEMENT TO
SENATE, No. 2945
with committee amendments
STATE OF NEW JERSEY
DATED: JUNE 10, 2021
The Senate Transportation Committee reports favorably and with committee amendments Senate Bill No. 2945.
As amended and reported, this bill exempts persons with disabilities from the payment of identification card fees. The person is required to provide proof of disability, as determined by the Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission in consultation with the federal Social Security Administration, in a form prescribed by the chief administrator. The bill requires, instead of permits, the chief administrator to waive identification card fees for a person who is homeless and who submits proof of temporary residence through a social worker or the coordinator of an emergency shelter for the homeless where the person is temporarily residing.
The committee amended the bill to replace references to the Division of Disability Determination Services with the federal Social Security Administration.
