      The Assembly Community Services Committee reports favorably Assembly Bill No. 110.

      This bill requires the Commissioner of Health and Senior Services to provide for the testing of all infants born in the State for the presence of sickle cell anemia and other hemoglobinopathies. The commissioner shall ensure that treatment services are available to all identified individuals. The bill also provides that any revenues collected from fees charged for the testing shall be applied to the testing and treatment procedures performed under the bill.

      The bill includes an appropriation of $375,000 from the General Fund.

      This bill was prefiled for introduction in the 1996-1997 session pending technical review. As reported, the bill includes the changes required by technical review which has been performed.
