ASSEMBLY, No. 140

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED: May 7, 1996

Assembly Bill No. 140(1R) of 1996 amends N.J.S.2C:33-3 by classifying the placement of a false 9-1-1 system call as a disorderly persons offense. The bill also permits telephone companies and commercial mobile communication providers to release information to law enforcement agencies regarding a person who is under investigation for placing "false alarm" calls.

The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) states that the actual cost of this bill cannot be estimated because information is not available regarding the number of false 9-1-1 calls currently placed. However, the AOC observes that enactment of this bill would have a minimal fiscal impact on the State and local governments.

The Office of Legislative Services concurs.
