ASSEMBLY, No. 171

      The Assembly Commerce and Military and Veterans' Affairs Committee reports favorably Assembly Bill No. 171.

      As reported, this bill would amend the "Pinelands Protection Act," P.L.1979, c.111 (C.13:18A-1 et seq.), to require that the seven members of the Pinelands Commission that are appointed or reappointed by the Governor reside in the pinelands area. Current law requires only that they be residents of the State. The bill allows members, appointed by the Governor, who are serving on the commission on the effective date of the bill to serve until the expiration of their terms.

      This bill was pre-filed for introduction in the 1996 session pending technical review. As reported, the bill includes the changes required by technical review which has been performed.
