ASSEMBLY, No. 282
STATE OF NEW JERSEY
Introduced Pending Technical Review by Legislative Counsel
PRE-FILED FOR INTRODUCTION IN THE 1996 SESSION
By Assemblymen BATEMAN and KAVANAUGH
An Act concerning the New Jersey Transit Corporation and supplementing P.L.1979, c.150 (C.27:25-1 et seq.).
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. In exercising its authority granted by section 10 of P.L.1979, c.150 (C.27:25-10) in the case of a high-level platform to be constructed at Lyons Station in the Township of Bernards, Somerset County, the corporation shall limit the length of that platform to 100 feet.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill requires the New Jersey Transit Corporation to limit the length of the high-level platform to be constructed at Lyons Station in the Township of Bernards, Somerset County to 100 feet. A recent proposal by New Jersey Transit to replace the existing platform with a high-level platform to meet increased ridership as a result of the completion of the Kearny Connection would extend the platform to 285 feet, creating a serious inconvenience to those commuters using the station and negatively affecting the architectural integrity of the station. A platform of 100 feet would allow New Jersey Transit to comply with the provisions of the "Americans with Disabilities Act," Pub.L. 101-336 (42 U.S.C.§12101 et seq.).
Requires NJT to limit length of platform at Lyons Station in Bernards Township to 100 feet.
