An Act concerning energy efficiency in government, and supplementing chapter 11 of Title 40A of the New Jersey Statutes and chapter 32 of Title 52 of the Revised Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. In addition to the requirements set forth in chapter 11 of Title 40A of the New Jersey Statutes, whenever any local governmental unit purchases, contracts for or leases a new electrically powered device of three kilowatts of power or more, the device shall have permanently affixed thereto a nameplate identifying its component efficiency rating, which rating shall be in accordance with accepted industry or trade association standards.

 

    2. Any new electrically powered device of three kilowatts of power or more to be purchased, contracted for or leased by the State shall have permanently affixed thereto a nameplate identifying its component efficiency rating, which rating shall be in accordance with accepted industry or trade association standards

 

    3. The Department of Environmental Protection and Energy, pursuant to the "Administrative Procedure Act," P.L.1968, c.410 (C.52:14B-1 et seq.) shall adopt the rules and regulations necessary to implement the provisions of this act.

 

    4. This act shall take effect on 45 days following enactment.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    This bill would provide that whenever the State or any municipality or county purchases, contracts for or leases a new electrically powered device of three kilowatts of power or more, a nameplate identifying its component efficiency rating would be permanently affixed to the device. The bill also provides that the ratings affixed to the devices be in accordance with accepted industry or trade association standards.

    The Department of Environmental Protection would be authorized to adopt rules and regulations to implement the provisions of the act.

 

 

 

Requires governmental entities purchasing certain electrically powered devices to have them labelled with their component efficiency rating.
