STATEMENT

This bill appropriates $1,700,000 in General Funds and $1,600,000 in federal funds to the Department of Human Services to increase Medicaid reimbursement rates to providers of transportation services for the balance of FY 1994.

Providers of transportation services to the Medicaid program have not received an increase in their reimbursement rates for many years. This has resulted in the State's largest non-emergency medical transport company, Ambicare, Inc. (Orange) to cease operations, thus leaving Medicaid patients in the Essex County area without transportation to needed medical services. Other medical transportation companies also face financial hardships.

Supplemental appropriation of $1,700,000 in General Funds and $1,600,000 in federal funds to DHS to increase Medicaid reimbursement for transportation services.
