An Act concerning child support enforcement and supplementing chapter 17 of Title 2A of the New Jersey Statutes.

Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

    1. Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, the Administrative Office of the Courts, in consultation with the State IV-D agency, shall establish a child support arrearage payment schedule which would allow county probation departments to collect from an obligor parent, the entire amount of a child support obligation due to a custodial parent before their youngest child reaches the age of majority.

    2. This act shall take effect six months after enactment.

STATEMENT

This bill directs the Administrative Office of the Courts, in consultation with the State IV-D agency, to establish a child support arrearage payment schedule which would allow county probation departments to collect the entire amount of child support due to a custodial parent before their youngest child reaches the age of majority. Under the current payment schedule, many support obligations are not paid in their entirety until long after the children are emancipated. The proposed schedule would help reduce Statewide child support arrearages and provide for the needs of children at the time when they need the financial assistance the most.

Directs the AOC to establish a new child support arrearage payment schedule.
