An Act concerning the closing of municipal fire stations and supplementing chapter 14 of Title 40A of the New Jersey Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. Notwithstanding the provisions of any law, rule or regulation to the contrary, when the governing body of any municipality determines for any reason that a fire station in the municipality shall be closed, the decision of the governing body shall not be effective until a public notice announcing the closing of the fire station has been published in the official newspaper of the municipality and broadcast on the cable television station servicing the municipality not less than twice during the one-month period immediately preceding the projected date of the closing of the fire station.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill requires that any action of a municipal governing body to close a municipal fire station shall not be effective until a public notice announcing the closing of the fire station has been published in the official newspaper of the municipality and broadcast on the cable television station servicing the municipality not less than twice during the one-month period immediately preceding the projected date of the closing of the fire station.
