ASSEMBLY JUDICIARY COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

ASSEMBLY, No. 68

with committee amendments

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED: JUNE 10, 1996

The Assembly Judiciary Committee reports favorably and with committee amendments Assembly Bill No. 68.

This bill would amend various sections of the law and replace the term "visitation" with the term "parenting time" to more accurately reflect the relationship between a parent and child who have gone through a divorce.

The committee amendments deleted section 12 of the bill concerning grandparents rights since visitation appears to be the correct term in that context. The amendments in section 8 of the bill are technical and reflect recently enacted legislation, P.L.1995, c.242, which amended the "Prevention of Domestic Violence Act".

This bill embodies recommendation number 6 of the report of the Commission to Study the Law of Divorce, issued April 18, 1995.

This bill was prefiled for introduction in the 1996 session pending technical review. As reported, the bill includes the changes required by technical review which has been performed.
