An Act restricting the appointment of persons to certain municipal boards, commissions or authorities and supplementing chapter 9 of Title 40A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. Unless otherwise required by law, no person shall be appointed to serve as a member on more than one municipal board, commission or authority established by law, ordinance or resolution at a given time. A person serving on more than one board, commission or authority on the effective date of this act shall continue to serve in these positions until the terms expire and shall be reappointed to no more than one of those positions unless otherwise required by law.

 

    2. This act shall take effect on the first day of the year next following enactment.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    This bill restricts the appointment, after the effective date of this bill, of a person to no more than one municipal board, commission or authority established by law, ordinance or resolution at a given time, unless otherwise required by law. Under the provisions of this bill, a person serving on more than one board, commission or authority on the effective date of this bill, when enacted, shall continue to serve in these positions until the terms expire and shall be reappointed to no more than one of those positions unless otherwise required by law.
