An Act concerning membership in the Police and Firemen's Retirement System of New Jersey.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. Notwithstanding the provisions of section 3 of P.L.1944, c.255 (C.43:16A-3) or any other law or regulation to the contrary, a police officer in a municipality with a population of more than 14,000 but less than 14,500, according to the 1990 federal decennial census, in a county of the first class who was previously enrolled in the Police and Firemen's Retirement System because of service in that municipality shall be reenrolled in the retirement system upon reemployment in the municipality, provided the officer furnishes such evidence of good health at the time of becoming a member as the retirement system shall require. Employee and employer contributions shall be due and payable from the date of reemployment.

 

    2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall expire one year thereafter.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    This bill provides that a police officer in a municipality with a population of more than 14,000 but less than 14,500, according to the 1990 decennial census, in a county of the first class who is over 35 years of age and who was previously enrolled in the Police and Firemen's Retirement System (PFRS) because of service in that municipality shall be reenrolled in PFRS upon reemployment in the municipality and upon furnishing any required evidence of good health. Employee and employer contributions shall be due and payable from the date of reemployment


 

Provides for enrollment of certain officers in PFRS.
