An Act concerning emergency medical services and supplementing chapter 2K of Title 26 of the Revised Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. The Commissioner of Health shall approve an application for a certificate of need, as required pursuant to section 7 of P.L.1971, c.136 (C.26:2H-7), to designate Jersey City Medical Center in the city of Jersey City, Hudson County, as a Level II trauma center.

 

    2. This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    This bill directs the Commissioner of Health to approve a certificate of need application to designate Jersey City Medical Center as a Level II trauma center. Currently, the following hospitals are designated as Level II trauma centers: Hackensack Medical Center (Hackensack), St. Joseph's Medical Center (Paterson), Morristown Memorial Hospital (Morristown), Jersey Shore Medical Center (Neptune) and Atlantic City Medical Center (Atlantic City). These trauma centers provide 24-hour surgical and emergency medical services.
