      The Assembly Commerce and Military and Veterans' Affairs Committee reports favorably Assembly, No. 856.

      This bill would allow holders of the Silver Star special license plates to affix a silver star insignia to their license plates. The insignia would be in addition to the other markings required by law, and would be approved by the Director of the Division of Motor Vehicles in the Department of Law and Public Safety.

      The Silver Star is a prestigious medal for gallantry in action, awarded by the armed forces of the United States. The silver star insignia affixed to Silver Star special license plates highlights this achievement on holders' license plates.

      This bill was prefiled for introduction in the 1996 session pending technical review. As reported, the bill includes the changes required by technical review, which has been performed.
