SENATE TRANSPORATION COMMITTEE
STATEMENT TO
ASSEMBLY, No. 856
with committee amendments
STATE OF NEW JERSEY
DATED: MAY 15, 1997
The Senate Transporation Committee reports favorably Assembly Bill No. 856 with committee amendments.
This bill would allow holders of the Silver Star special license plate to affix a silver star insignia to their license plates. The insignia would be in addition to the other markings required by law, and would be approved by the Director of the Division of Motor Vehicles in the Department of Transportation.
The Silver Star is a prestigious medal for gallantry in action, awarded by the armed forces of the United States. The silver star insignia affixed to the Silver Star special license plate highlights this achievement on holders' license plates.
The committee amended the bill to change the effective date from 30 days to six months after enactment.
