An Act concerning bail and supplementing Title 2A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, whenever a defendant is released on bail or otherwise discharged prior to disposition of a criminal matter the prosecuting agency ,if requested in writing by the chief of police, shall notify the chief of police or his designee of the municipality where the crime occurred.

 

    2. This act shall take effect immediately.

 

STATEMENT

 

This bill would require the prosecuting agency to notify the chief of police of a municipality where the crime occurred when a defendant is released on bail or otherwise discharged.

    The bill would also provide that the chief of police must request the notification in writing to the prosecuting agency, and also permit notification to be made to the police chief's designee.

 

 

 

Requires police in municipality where crime occurred be notified when a defendant is released on bail if request is made in writing.
