An Act concerning local boards of education and supplementing chapter 10 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. Each board of education shall meet with the governing body of the municipality or municipalities in which the school district is located on a regular basis, but not less than once each year, in order to discuss matters of mutual concern including finances and community involvement with the schools. The president of the board of education shall schedule the date, time, and location of the meeting and shall, in consultation with the mayor or other chief executive officer of the municipality, establish the agenda of items to be discussed at the meeting. The president of the board of education shall chair the meeting.

 

    2. This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    This bill provides for joint meetings between a board of education and the governing body of the municipality or municipalities in which the board is located on at least an annual basis. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss matters of mutual concern including finances and community involvement with the schools.

    Under the provisions of the bill, the president of the board of education shall chair the meeting, schedule the date, time, and location of the meeting, and in consultation with the mayor or other chief executive officer of the municipality, establish the agenda of items to be discussed at the meeting.


 

Provides for annual meetings between local board of education and municipal governing body.
