An Act concerning education, providing scholarships for certain individuals and supplementing chapter 71 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. There is established the Miss New Jersey Educational Scholarship program. It shall be the duty of the Student Assistance Board, established pursuant to P.L.1977, c.330 (C.18A:71-15.1 et seq.) to administer this program.

 

    2. A Miss New Jersey Educational Scholarship shall be awarded to any individual who has been designated as Miss New Jersey and who has represented this State in the Miss America Pageant. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, the individual shall be enrolled in or accepted into a course of 1[undergraduate]1 study leading to an initial bachelors degree 1 or a post graduate degree1 in any public institution of higher education of this State, as enumerated in N.J.S.18A:62-1.

 

    3. Any Miss New Jersey who enrolls in a public institution of higher education in the State shall be allowed to obtain an initial bachelors degree 1or a post graduate degree1 without payment of tuition as long as the individual remains a full time student in good standing at the institution.

 

    4. The Student Assistance Board shall adopt, pursuant to the "Administrative Procedure Act," P.L.1968, c.410 (C.52:14B-1 et seq.) such rules and regulations as are necessary for the implementation of this act.


    5. This act shall take effect immediately; however, the first Miss New Jersey Scholarship shall be awarded for the academic year which ensues next following enactment.
