FISCAL NOTE TO

[First Reprint]

ASSEMBLY, No. 955

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED: JANUARY 22, 1997

Assembly Bill No. 955 (1R) of 1996 requires the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in the Department of Transportation to display the term "amateur radio," in addition to the amateur radio call letters, on special motor vehicle registration plates issued to persons holding amateur radio licenses. The bill also increases the fee for the special plates from $10 to $15.

DMV provided a fiscal note last session for a similar bill, Assembly Bill No. 1453 of 1994, which estimated that an additional $1,890 in revenues would be generated annually without any increase in cost. This estimate was based on an average annual issuance of special plates to 378 holders of amateur radio licenses.

The Office of Legislative Services considers the earlier DMV estimate to be reasonably current and concurs with that estimate.
