An Act concerning transportation and supplementing P.L.1979, c.150 (C.27:25-1 et seq.).
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. Upon request of a school district, the New Jersey Transit Corporation shall lease a wheelchair accessible motorbus to the district for the purpose of transporting a disabled teacher and the teacher's pupils on a field trip approved by the district. In accordance with Federal Transit Administration regulations, a school district shall first offer private motorbus carriers the opportunity to perform the work. If no private motor bus carrier accepts the work, the corporation may accept the work. The corporation may decline the work if accepting the work would unduly disrupt the provision of regular route bus service by the corporation.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill would require the New Jersey Transit Corporation to lease a wheelchair accessible bus, to a school district upon request by the district for the purpose of transporting a disabled teacher and the teacher's pupils on a field trip approved by the district.
Requires NJT to lease wheelchair accessible bus to school districts for disabled teachers to accompany students on field trips.
