By Assemblyman GEIST

An Act concerning projects of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and supplementing P.L.1948, c.454 (C.27:23-1 et seq.).

Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

    1. The New Jersey Turnpike Authority shall not construct, acquire, maintain, repair or operate a project addition and extension to the New Jersey Turnpike consisting of a highway, or such part or parts thereof, connecting the New Jersey Turnpike to the Atlantic City Expressway in Gloucester County.

    2. This act shall take effect immediately.

STATEMENT

This bill would prohibit the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (the authority) from constructing and operating an extension to the New Jersey Turnpike to connect the turnpike to the Atlantic City Expressway in Gloucester County.

The authority recently released an alternative route development study on a proposed connector roadway between the Atlantic City Expressway and the New Jersey Turnpike. There has been significant public opposition to the proposed connector roadway in Glouceser County as it would adversely impact farmland and wetlands, as well as air and noise quality, and would disrupt the community life of the muncipalities which it would traverse.
