ASSEMBLY STATE GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

ASSEMBLY, No. 1222

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED: FEBRUARY 5, 1996

The Assembly State Government Committee reports favorably Assembly, No. 1222.

This bill revises the deadline by which candidates for elective State office are required to file personal financial disclosure statements with the Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC).

Under current law, a candidate for election to the office of Governor or the office of member of the Legislature or for reelection thereto must file with ELEC a personal financial disclosure statement on or before the tenth day following the last day for filing a petition to appear on the ballot.

This bill would change the deadline for filing the disclosure statement with ELEC to May 15 of the year in which the person is a candidate for such office.

This bill was prefiled for introduction in the 1996 session pending technical review. As reported, the bill includes the changes required by technical review, which has been performed.
